
About the Artist
Andrew Barthelmes was born in Peekskill, N.Y., to a family with a love of both
nature and art. He began at a young age watercoloring with his father, also an artist,
in the storied hills of the Hudson Highlands. He moved to New York City to attend
The School of Visual Arts. By 1996 he had been honored by the Society of Illustrators
and the Art Directors Club. His 50th Anniversary Stamp was selected by SVA to
appear as a billboard on the side of its 23rd St. building. His illustrations have appeared
in publications such as The New Yorker, Ladies' Home Journal, Street & Smith's Sports
and The Wall Street Journal Classroom Edition. He has completed two children's books:
Sherman the Loudmouth, and If my Mom Were a Platypus.He has worked as a children's book designer for both Random House Inc.,
